Critical incidents are significant and often dramatic events that can result in acute psychological stress for emergency responders who provided front line services related to the incident or its aftermath. Examples of critical incidents include motor vehicle collisions, death of a colleague in the line of duty, fatal shootings or other forms of violent crime, physical or sexual assaults of children, natural disasters, or large scale violence due to war or conflict.
