Iris is completing her practicum as a student at the University of Toronto Factor - Inwentash Faculty of Social Work (FIFSW) as a Master of Social Work Student. She has previous volunteer counselling experiences. She deeply understands the unique and complex challenges faced by newcomers, including language barriers, cultural shock, academic stress, financial insecurity and more. Iris has extensive experiences working with diverse populations in different ethnic, culture and age groups, especially with women and elderly individuals. Some of her key interests include, but are not restricted too, trauma recovery, depression, grieving, and personal growth. Recently, Iris completed her previous practicum at the Forensic General Unit at The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health(CAMH). Within this team, she gained experience working with individuals with autism and with relapse prevention for substance abuse. Apart from these direct clinical experiences, she has experiences in developing games aiming for diverse populations and issues, including dementia and break-up suffers. Getting into therapy can be tough and Iris is willing to walk this path with you. Drawing on her multicultural experience and bachelor’s degree in psychology, she approaches each client with genuine curiosity. In her sessions, she will encourage you to openly discuss your challenges in a non-judgmental environment. The conversations will focus on exploring your inner strengths, coping strategies and moving away from the negative lens that may be present. She is proficient in Mandarin and English and tries to fill in (at least some) the gaps of the language in the practices provided. She mainly uses Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy methods (EMDR).
