Judy La Penna is a registered social worker with the Ontario College of Social Work (OCSWSSW), holds a Bachelors of Social Work from Ryerson University and a Masters of Social Work. Judy began her career working with military members and their families providing support in preparation for deployment, throughout deployment and upon the member's return and reintegration. Judy has experience working with adults, couples, youth and families. She also has experience supporting first responder families and is the spouse of a first responder. She has worked with people experiencing complex mental health issues such as Operational Stress Injuries, depression, anxiety, traumatic and sudden loss, postpartum depression and perinatal loss as well as life changes and is passionate about helping them navigate these experiences.
Judy has trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia, Narrative therapy, Crisis and Trauma Therapy and High Conflict Divorce and Separation counselling. She uses a collaborative and strengths-based approach with her clients.
In her personal life, Judy enjoys going for hikes with her dog, exploring the outdoors with her family and enjoying live music and sports with friends.
