Melanie, Clinical Director of The Trauma Centre, a registered Social Worker with the Ontario college of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). For over 25 years Melanie has provided clinical social work services, consultation and supervision. She is a Certified Trauma Treatment Specialist and EMDR Therapist, Melanie addresses the effects of trauma, including a history of childhood abuse, work related traumatic incidents, motor vehicle accidents, and traumatic losses. Her work also includes self-injury, dissociation, anxiety, depression, grief and loss issues for children, adolescents, and adults. Melanie works extensively with first responders and veterans, providing treatment for occupational stress injury and post traumatic stress disorder. Melanie uses a collaborative approach and together with her clients, she explores their personal stories and the way the world around them has shaped their sense of self. Her aim is to support individuals to achieve relief from emotional pain, resolution of trauma and resolve the problems and issues standing in the way of their moving forward in their life in a way that has meaning for them. Melanie is a Certified Yoga Teacher and facilitates a yoga program at the Trauma Centre. She teaches a gentle Hatha based mindful yoga. Healing whether physical, psychological, emotional or spiritual needs to address issues of the mind and body. Our yoga program, in conjunction with our psychotherapy program, focuses on the mindful use of breath and movement through poses to support the creation of balance, strength and flexibility in mind, body and emotions.True healing is integrative.
